What Philly Do We Want?

We want a Philadelphia where Black Lives Matter, that provides fair housing, that aggressively pursues defunding the police, that supports working class communities, and that has robust arts and culture offerings by and for Philadelphians. Tell us what Philly you want!

Our Story

No To Zero For The Arts is a platform initiated by members of the Vox Populi Artist Collective to connect with likeminded artists, organizations, and audiences on the development of new approaches to support for Philadelphia artists. Since launching, No To Zero has been in collaboration with artists and organizers from Big Picture AllianceGirls Rock Philly,  Power Street TheatreRock to the FutureSpiral Q, and Theatre in the X on efforts to oppose Philadelphia’s proposed 2021 budget.

The City of Philadelphia so frequently touts arts and culture as one of its major assets in nearly all its recruitment materials—for job-providers, for job-seekers, for new businesses, for developers, for home-buyers, and for tourists. While the impact and importance of arts and culture in Philadelphia can not be summarized in economic terms alone, it’s crucial to note that our city’s artists and arts organizations put more into the local economy than they take out. Our organizations play a significant community-building function for the artists of Philadelphia, who receive professional development and advancement opportunities, who pilot new entrepreneurial platforms, who network with other city creatives and activists, who provide and receive free public education, and who build a sense of personal and collective pride in Philadelphia as a result of our activities, to name just a few of our social functions.

It’s time for the city to put money where their mouth is by investing in the grassroots arts and culture sector, instead of exploiting it further!

Thank you to the artists of The Vox Populi Collective for their work on this campaign, including artist Stephanie Bursese for coining the phrase No To Zero For The Arts. No To Zero For The Arts is initiated by artist members of the Vox Populi Collective, it is not an official program of, nor receives funding from, Vox Populi, Inc.
